The relationship between media coverage of sport at an international level and local community sports is a symbiotic one. Editors will cover women’s sport more when there’s a story to tell – i.e. when they’re winning. But if England is to continue to produce great female cricketers, then more needs to be done in schools and at club levels to get young women in at an early age, which won’t happen when most people aren’t even aware that our international women’s cricket team exist. And how will people become more aware? If the media cover it properly.
